Plastic Surgeons in Dallas on How to Choose a Practice for Facelift Procedures

Dallas Plastic Surgeons Say Choosing the Right Practice for a Facelift Is Essential

According to the latest statistics from the American Society for Aesthetic Plastic Surgery (ASAPS), the facelift is the third most common surgical cosmetic enhancement of the face. Doctors at the Gunter Center for plastic surgery in Dallas say choosing the right practice for a facelift can ensure patients receive the highest quality results and the greatest level of satisfaction with their experience. Dr. Michael Bogdan and Dr. Jack Gunter discuss the most important characteristics to look for in a surgeon for facelift procedures and how to choose a practice based on experience, qualifications, and dedication to patient care.

As a plastic surgeon in Dallas, Dr. Michael Bogdan says selecting the right practice for a facelift procedure is essential for achieving the proper results. According to the latest statistics from the American Society for Aesthetic Plastic Surgery (ASAPS), a facelift is the third most popular facial surgical procedure in 2010 (following eyelid surgery and rhinoplasty), with a 35% growth compared to 2009. Dr. Jack Gunter, founder and director of the Gunter Center in Dallas, says popularity of cosmetic enhancement is likely a result of its effectiveness in rejuvenating and invigorating skin and appearance. He adds that a successful facelift can restore the vitality of youth to patients’ facial expressions and highlight their inner beauty.

With a facelift procedure, Dr. Bogdan says the ultimate goal is to help patients feel and look younger while still looking like themselves. While there are many approaches to performing facelifts, he adds that for many patients, a traditional procedure is the best option. During a traditional facelift, incisions are created along the sides of the face for surgeons to remove loose skin and fat from the neck and facial areas. The skin and underlying muscles are then tightened. Because the procedure requires exact precision and intensive knowledge of facial structure, Dr. Bogdan says patients should take great care to find a surgeon who is up-to-date on the latest techniques and has a wealth of experience in performing facial plastic surgery. “Because of the complex anatomy and high visibility, facelifts and rhinoplasties are two of the most technically demanding operations performed in plastic surgery. When considering either of these procedures, patients should seek surgeons who have a strong knowledge base, excellent technical skills, and sound judgment.”

Regardless of whether patients are looking for a facelift or any other type of cosmetic enhancement such as breast augmentation, both Dr. Gunter and Dr. Bogdan say that consulting with a board-certified plastic surgeon is crucial for a safe and effective procedure. Dr. Gunter also recommends extensively researching a practice’s commitment to patient care and personalized treatment.

Plastic Surgeon in Dallas Discusses ASPS Plastic Surgery 11 Rhinoplasty Lectures

Dr. Jack Gunter is a board-certified plastic surgeon in Dallas, TX. He recently delivered a lecture and joined a panel discussion at Plastic Surgery 11, the annual conference of the American Society of Plastic Surgeons (ASPS), which focused on the traditional rhinoplasty procedure, and solutions to the complex secondary rhinoplasty procedure. Dr. Gunter says he always enjoys speaking at plastic surgery conferences, though especially appreciates the chance to participate in one of the premier industry events with one of the most prestigious plastic surgery societies.

At the Dallas plastic surgery practice, Gunter Center for Aesthetics & Cosmetic Surgery, Dr. Jack P. Gunter and his team of surgeons perform surgical and nonsurgical procedures of the face, breast, and body. Dr. Gunter is known internationally for his work on the rhinoplasty and revision rhinoplasty procedures. He recently delivered a lecture and participated in a panel discussion at Plastic Surgery 11, the annual conference of the American Society of Plastic Surgeons (ASPS), focused specifically on his extensive experience with each procedure.

The presentation is titled, “Solutions to Complex Problems in Secondary Rhinoplasty.” Dr. Gunter delivered this lecture to an audience of plastic and reconstructive surgeons from all over the world. He says he believes his extensive experience with this procedure provides him with a unique perspective and greater appreciation for the complexity of revision rhinoplasty, which is why he felt delivering this lecture at the ASPS conference was essential:

“Primary rhinoplasty is felt by most plastic surgeons to be the most difficult operation in cosmetic surgery to get consistently good results. However, revision or secondary rhinoplasty is considered to be much more difficult than primary rhinoplasty. The reason for this is that the dissecting planes of the tissues have been obliterated by scar tissue, thus anatomical structures are often distorted, displaced, and in some cases, may be missing. A successful result in such a small area is a considerable feat and takes a large amount of experience.”

Dr. Gunter then participated in a panel discussion on “Rhinoplasty Techniques that have Stood the Test of Time.” With more than 35 years of experience performing rhinoplasty in Dallas and around the world, Dr. Gunter says joining the discussion on the long-standing success of the traditional approach to rhinoplasty was a pleasure, as he was happy to share his range of experiences while speaking with some of the top plastic surgeons in the industry:

“Panel discussions are always enjoyable especially when the panel is full of “experts”. As the old saying goes, “there are several ways to skin a cat” but the goal is to determine the “best” way. As you can imagine, there are usually several differing opinions and the discussions can get to be quite lively. Although there is not always a consensus of opinion, it simulates the audience and the panelists think about the different presentations. This can give them different and new ideas on what may work better than what they are presently doing. A good panel can be very productive for all.”

As Dr. Gunter prepares to continue his rigorous schedule of speaking engagements and lectures, he says he always enjoys the chance to meet and collaborate with the leading minds of his industry. He adds that the ASPS annual conference is especially enjoyable because the society is well-respected and attracts not only the current innovators of plastic surgery, but the future leaders of the industry as well.

In addition to the recent translation of this surgical tome into Chinese, Dr. Gunter is announcing another milestone following the completion of his 5,000th rhinoplasty procedure.

Dallas Rhinoplasty: Nasal Surgery by the Masters is the surgical encyclopedia on the rhinoplasty procedure, edited in part by world-renowned plastic surgeon Dr. Jack Gunter. Following the 2011 Dallas Rhinoplasty Symposium — a source of knowledge and expertise the world of Dallas Rhinoplasty has depended on for over two decades—Dr. Gunter is officially announcing his successful completion of his 5,000th rhinoplasty procedure.

At the Gunter Center for Aesthetic and Cosmetic Surgery, Dr. Gunter and his associates, Dr. C. Spencer Cochran and Dr. Michael Bogdan, perform a range of aesthetic enhancement procedures, including rhinoplasty and revision, or secondary rhinoplasty. For over 35 years, he not only continues to refine the art and science required of one of the most complex plastic surgery procedures, but says he also focuses intensely on providing the surgeons of tomorrow with the skills and expertise necessary to transform the field of rhinoplasty in the future.

While Dr. Gunter contributes a great deal of time fulfilling his role as an educator both in the U. S. and internationally, he adds that his days as a performer and innovator are far from over. Already looking ahead to the coming year and the 2012 Dallas Rhinoplasty Symposium, Dr. Gunter had this to say about the future of rhinoplasty: “Since the first modern day rhinoplasty was performed in the U. S. in 1938, plastic surgeons have been attempting to perfect his operation, as it is one of the most difficult procedures in cosmetic surgery. To this day, no surgeon has been able to produce consistently predictable results; however, we are getting closer and hope that with continuous advancement in the teaching of this operation, we can aspire to this in the near future.”
