Surgery and Recovery
Prior to breast augmentation surgery, Dr. Bogdan discusses the procedure with the patient, and he and patient decide on the type and size of implant to be used. The incision site will also be discussed – patients can choose from among several incision options and can weigh the pros and cons of each with the guidance of our experienced breast augmentation surgeon.
The incision site will be discussed with the patient and, with the guidance of Dr. Bogdan, the patient will decide where incisions will be placed. In performing the procedure, Dr. Bogdan prepares a small pocket for each implant beneath the breast tissue alone or under the pectoral muscle. The implants are then placed either within the breast tissue or under the pectoral muscle. The incisions are then closed, and the procedure is complete.
Patients can expect some soreness and discomfort after surgery. These can be managed with pain medications prescribed by Dr. Bogdan. After a few days have passed, pain and other discomfort will ease considerably, but it is important not to rush the healing process and to give the body plenty of time to rest. Most patients are able to return to work after approximately one week.
At the Gunter-Center, Dr. Bogdan utilizes the Canfield VECTRA 3D Breast Imaging System to help with implant sizing and simulation of the post-operative results expected with breast augmentation. The system allows the patient to have a good idea what changes will occur with implant choices. The system is on the cutting edge of 3D technology, and gives a fairly realistic prediction for the majority of patients.
